DANGEROUS MIMES (Theatrical Trailer)

Abstract: These Mimes aren’t following the rules anymore. Fed up with mistreatment, two mimes wreak havoc using one of the world’s oldest art forms. Using “Pantomimed” objects, these two can cause some real trouble.

Artist Statement:
Inspired by René Magritte’s painting The Treachery of Images (1928-29); this video aims to critique movie trailers (previews). I have always enjoyed movies trailers as finished/completed works of art rather than prologues to the full-length feature. Many people are disappointed with movies that do not meet their expectations, and criticize trailers for revealing too much or not enough. But who is to blame for framing such expectations?
A movie trailer is an advertisement. People do not expect to look like an “Angel” with the lingerie shown in a Victoria’s Secret advertisement.
Movie Trailers grab viewers’ attention and influence their perception with deliberate and careful selection of what to show and what to hide. For this reason, I used Mimes as a mechanism to express these characteristics. Ask yourself “Is Seeing Believing?”

Perception is ultimately at the control of the individual.
